"Every house where love abides
And friendship is a guest,
Is surely home, and home sweet home
For there the heart can rest."

Welcome November to my home!

October flew by like a leaf falling from a tree. November is here and we are enjoying the last leaves before they are all gone while also looking forward to the winter season. It brings up feelings of cocooning in house with a warm quilt and cup of hot cocoa. Quilts are important in my home along with afghans. I love having them in most of the rooms to decorate with as well as use. You will find me most evenings wrapped up with a quilt on the couch.

Our bedroom has a couple of quilts including this one hanging on a rack. I placed it with some red accents to the front for autumn and then added a dough trough filled with leaves, toadstools and acorns. It is nice to get out old items once again. I made the bobbinlace toadstool picture years ago but still enjoy seeing it again each autumn.

What do you use in your home for comfort?

"Where we love is home,
Home that our feet may leave, but not our hearts."
~Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.

Of course I have many afghans made by my Mom and also some I made. I love them. I also have some cute little blankets I hang over the chair backs and use for winter. Two my Sister gave me and one was from my cousin.
I have a snuggy, but have never taken it out of the box. Maybe this year.
Hope you have a good November.
Love you, Mom

I like candles and books and my little dog Winston. And if I can't get a cup of coffee, an adult beverage is often welcomed! LOL

Two or three people have been writing about cocooning today...such an evocative description!
My comfort wraps are a long fleece housecoat which is light and warm, and a pair of BIG socks!
So elegant.

I too love quilts and afghans...the afghan that my Grandmother made is a real treasure...especially now that she is gone....and when it is really cold or I need a little extra comfort you can find my cuddled up in a pink and white Sunbonnet Sue quilt, chocolate of some form or another at hand and a snuggly dog or cat nearby...grins...of course I have collected teddy bears since I was a little girl so there is always a cute furry face somewhere watching me, making me smile ;) Hugs from CA.

We have lots of afghans, a few quilts, and a whole lot of fleece, some of which have the edges finished and others not. I have a crocheted lap blanket over the arm of my recliner in the bedroom that I throw over my legs all winter long. I also love my shawls, some crocheted, one made of wool. Add a mug of hot chocolate with plenty of whipped cream, and I'm all set.

I have lots of quilts that I made and lots of afghans that my youngest daughter made.

I liked the idea of hanging the baby dress with the quilt in your picture. I have a couple in the cedar chest that I could get out and display.

I have several afghans that my mother made and are so precious to me. I leave them out all year, but come the fall and winter, they are more than decorative. I love all the colors, textures, and fragrances of fall, especially flannel sheets!

I have an afghan and a soft blanket on the couches in the living room, but my cats somehow seem to claim them before I can get to them! As for quilts, I recently obtained two of them for our guest room in progress. One quilt belonged to the aunt of a dear family friend who is now is his 80's. He slept under this quilt as a boy at his aunt's house. It mainly has light green and yellow in it. The other quilt, my mom bought at a little resale shop and was going to resell it on eBay until I claimed it, hee hee. It is very cheerful, with bright, primary colored butterflies on it. Can't wait to use these quilts once we get a bed in the guest room!

I also love quilts and afghans, but so far I haven't made a big quilt yet. They are really great for decoration purposes as I can see on many of your pictures.
If I want to feel cozy sit on my stitching couch with all my WIPs, my current book and a cup of hot tea, and then I decide what I want to do - stitch or read, lol.

In winter I like to curl up under a warm wool blanket with a good book and a cup of hot chocolate. Your wooden dough trough is beautiful, I would love to own something like that but they are very hard to find.

Mother made so many lovely afghans but my dogs, who mostly live in the house, began to unintentionally ruin them with their nails, so I have to display with them in mind and out of their reach. I do remember a period of illness about ten years ago when my mom's blue and beige afghan was wrapped around me like a comforting hug. Things made by hand, things made with love...things made to last!
