And friendship is a guest,
Is surely home, and home sweet home
For there the heart can rest."

The sign post.....

Recently, while taking a nice drive in the country in the north of Holland, we happened upon this small lumbar yard. Jos stopped as he wanted to see if he could buy a weathered old post to use at Cranberry Cottage. The man showed us wood but we told him it was all too new. She he took us into this part of the yard and we found the perfect post for only 5 euros. It was a great deal and he was glad to get rid of it. The old weathered wood is not something people buy. Something I will never understand since I think it makes it instantly look like it has always belonged in the garden.

Why a sign post you ask? If you used to read my old blog then you know I had a sign made for the cottage. You can see where it was originally hanging by clicking here. We had a very old white ball outdoors lamp that was very ugly. It hung a bit up under the roof line thankfully so not so visible but still we really disliked it. We were able to get an old fashioned looking lantern with leaded glass for a great deal and decided to replace that ugly old one.

This lamp hangs down where the sign hung so we had to make other arrangements for the sign. Jos dug a spot up in the driveway, put in the post and our sign hangs once again to welcome you to Cranberry Cottage. It looks like it has always been this way. I really like that weathered look...

Right again, that post is perfect. It does look like it has been there forever. I like the new lamp also.
You never stop changing and finding.
Very nice. It's been quite a long time since I have been there.
Love you, Mom

I don't remember seeing the cottage tour before. The sign is so perfect and the post does exactly what you says with making it look and feel like it's always been there. Thanks for linking me to the tour. I understand much more that it's not just a blog name but the name of your cute cottage! Lucky you to get one of the 19!

The sign looks great hanging there, and what a pretty lantern. We need a lamp outside our house but we never get round to finding one!

The post looks just right beside the rustic gate.

Cranberry Cottage is the perfect name for your place, and now you have the perfect sign! I agree that the weathered wooden stake looks better than a new one would. Good job!
