"Every house where love abides
And friendship is a guest,
Is surely home, and home sweet home
For there the heart can rest."

Welcome October!

Ah...October! What a pretty month it is. It is time for the earth to give us a parade of colors. Mother Nature's last show before she sets the earth to sleep only to awaken in spring and start its rich blooming once again. I go out each day to see what progress the trees in the area have made. It is joy to watch the reds develop on the road leading up to our house. A little farther is a row of trees turning brightly to orange.

"Even if something is left undone, everyone must take time to sit still and watch the leaves turn."

~ Elizabeth Lawrence

My wreath is hung awaiting your knock on my door during this favorite season. I will welcome you in with a cup of hot apple cider and we can enjoy all the things that make this a special time of year.

"October's the month
When the smallest breeze
Gives us a shower
Of autumn leaves.
Bonfires and pumpkins,
Leaves sailing down -
October is red
And golden and brown."

~ Can Teach Songs

Can you take some time out to join me? I would love to hear what your favorite things about October are?

Words of writer's and poets long gone never grow old when it comes to singing autumn's praises and some of the greatest words ever written are those of a favorite author of mine...

"The gilding of the Indian summer mellowed the pastures far and wide.
The russet woods stood ripe to be stripped, but were yet full of leaf.
The purple of heath-bloom, faded but not withered, tinged the hills...
Fieldhead gardens bore the seal of gentle decay; ... its time of
flowers and even of fruit was over."

~ Charlotte Brontë

Mooie teksten en de deur ziet er uit als een plaatje met die mooie krans en omlijsting van blauwe regen. Jammer dat ie niet groen blijft.

I see you decided on one of your favorites, Charlotte Bronte. Not a surprise. I love the trees changing best of all. It is very cold here in Ohio today. We started the day at 35 degrees with frost. I think your wreath is really pretty.
Love you, Mom
PS: Can't come right now to have cider with you, too many treatments.

Hello Heidi
I am so glad I finally found time to sit and visit with you at your blog.
The wreath on your banner is so pretty!

My favorite thing about autumn is the cooler temperatures that just seem to re-new my energy levels after the hot summer.

Did you remember I made a bunch of stuffed pumpkins like yours last year? Mine were mostly black and white, anyway, almost all of them are living at Nina's this season and she is so happy with them. She put many of them in a basket and others are one the tops of some big candlesticks.

If I could, I would come knock on your door :)

Your doorway looks delightful, and what a pretty wreath. You have inspired me to do something Autumny for our front door!

Fijn weekend and a big hug!!!

Heidi, Love the wreath on your banner and on your door. It really makes one feel welcomed. October is a wonderful month for me as my youngest sister was born October 5th. I was a happy seven year old when my best friend arrived. Other favorite things are falling leaves of many colors, pumpkins, and of course wearing my wool sweaters that way a ton and keep me so warm. Enjoy the fall and the harvest moon.

Ops..meant to write my sweaters weigh a ton..sorry

Greetings to you,
I was lucky enough to find your blog while doing a random web search in regards to quilts.
Autumn has always been my favorite time of year, the first sighting of red, orange and yellow leaves still makes my heart soar, the aroma of wood smoke scenting the air from nearby fireplaces, and the endless pile of freshly raked leaves. Mother Natures aromatherapy.
