For there the heart can rest."

Monday washday

Today was washday here in our home. I enjoy doing laundry. Did I hear some of you shriek? I like knowing I can place the freshly cleaned clothes, neatly folded back in a drawer. Or having a fluffy towel to hang on the rack in the bathroom. Or smelling a piece of clothing that is fresh and clean. For this reason, I enjoy having a nice laundry room to go into for my day's work.

Recently, I found a lady selling primitive blocks and signs via eBay who is located in England. I love these blocks but found them too expensive to order in America because of postage costs. I was thrilled to find this sweet set of blocks for my laundry room shelves. It gives a vintage feel which works perfectly with my jars, old irons and clothes pegs.

I have been ironing also today. And yes...I enjoy this chore too. Perhaps a very good thing with all my husband's shirts for work. *grins*

My ironing board was less than exciting lately so when I found this cover in a discount store for just a couple of euros, I grabbed it up. It was the last one and for good reason as look how adorable it is. I think if you are going to do something regularly, be sure to enjoy it as much as you can by creating a pleasant space for yourself.

I don't mind doing the laundy in fact I'm doing mine tonight. But the ironing is a whole different story. I don't think your beautiful cover would help me change my mind.

Heidi, Monday is my laundry day too and tomorrow I iron..which I love to do. Sometimes I will iron on the patio and just enjoy nature or watch a bit of TV....have a happy evening. Hugs, Linda

When I was a teenager, still living at home, I loved doing the ironing for my mum, nowadays I'm not so keen. Mind you, with a cover like yours.... who knows LOL

I agree, Heidi, I love it when the wash and ironing is done, and I can put away beautifully scented linen. I do my ironing by the open door of my laundry room, looking out on to the terrace.

Jack Kornfield, great American Buddhist teacher has a book entitled, "After the Ecstacy, the Laundry"--don't you love that? So true! I did laundry too-- a little yesterday and today, start of the week is always laundry & ironing here. LOVE your new ironing board cover. I could use a new one, my is shabby now. Happy Day, Heidi :o) ((HUGS))

I really like your EB White quote. I really like your ironing board cover too. My current cover is a drab gray non-stick material that is totally uninspiring. Flowers would be much nicer.

Doing laundry is fine, but the ironing.... thats why I have a lot of clothes that don't need to be on the ironboard. I like a clean house, but not the cleaning, so I'm still looking for those little people with the red pointy hats;-)

Hi Heidi
I haven't been to visit in quite awhile, so I have a lot of catching up to do. A couple of times google wouldn't let me access your page. Anyway, that is so neat that you like doing laundry. It's just chore to me. Maybe if I had a nice laundry room instead of a closet that opens rigth into the kitchen I might be more inspired.... probably not :)
Hugs, Rhondi

Heidi your laundry room accoutrements are lovely, and that ironing board cover certainly brightens things up. I enjoy ironing - one can think without interruption - and end up with a lovely pile of fresh clothes/linens!

I'm planning to e-mail you today dear - like you I'm having thyroid problems, ugh!!!!

Hope life is good - Summer winding down and at last I'm home with some time to relax.

Hello Heidi,
I love to see washing blowing on the line. And clean sheets on the bed smell so nice especially when they've dried outside.
Your laundry looks great and very pretty ironing board cover. Mine used to be pretty but is worn out now. I think a new one is due too.

Well, you sure dressed up the ironing board. Maybe I will get dizzy looking at that design when I help you iron when I am there. I NEVER iron at home, only at your house. I like Linda's idea of ironing on the patio though.
Love you, Mom

Liefs Irma

We used to call those dolly pegs and dress them up and draw faces on them. :-)

I also like doing the laundry. I love the folding and holding something to the nose and breathing in. Ahhh. I like ironing too. Most women here in the states have quit ironing so I'm an oddball. There's just something about seeing those wrinkles disappear into smoothness. I splurged on a Rowenta steam iron whose separate tank holds a whole quart of water so I can iron for a very long time.

Heidi, The one thing my mom taught us girls was how to do laundy. I can even remember as a young girl that even on a cold snowy day she would hang as much laundry as she could on our outdoor swing out clothes line. Boy those clothes would be frozen stiff way before they dried. We would then bring them in and hang them next to the stove. How proud a moment it was when I would shriek "at last they are dry". Great memories.
