"Every house where love abides
And friendship is a guest,
Is surely home, and home sweet home
For there the heart can rest."

My Gypsy Heart.....

Wouldn't this be a fun way to take to the road and go camping out in the countryside? It just looks like pure romance...

The door is open and you can walk up the steps and take a peek...

Did I say camping? This is quite luxurious with chairs to pull up to the little woodstove and have a cup of tea with a real bone china tea set. If there is a woodstove then I am always in total contentment...

Wonder if he will be sitting outside the gypsy caravan waiting to serenade me?

I just love the music of Django Reinhardt which is often playing in my quilt studio. Why is it that all the great talent is from previous generations? Jos always says I was born in the wrong time. I think he is right.

Late hours of the afternoon.....

It is the late hours of the afternoon in the Dutch village of Warffum. The lady of the house has finished most of her work for the day and wants to use the last of afternoon sunshine for some needlework.

First, she pulls out her sewing machine to do make a pair of britches for her son. How wonderful this modern machine is as she has her work done in no time...

She really must get busy with her spinning...

As her knitting basket is almost empty of yarn. She just finished a new pair of socks for her dear husband and needs to make socks for the children now as the cold weather is never far away...

She hopes to do a little weaving as she enjoys making new rugs for the coming winter...

She also enjoys working on decorative items like this papercutting picture hanging so prettily on the wall...

Or start on the cat needlepoint she found which would look particularly nice with the dog needlework she made that is hanging over the fireplace mantle...

But first...she has to do some repair work on her lace cap which must make do until she has made a new one...

What do you enjoy doing with your late hours of the afternoon?

All photos were taken at the open air museum of Warffum, Groningen.

A heart of iron...

...wrought iron, that is! Anyone who has read my blog regularly knows that I just love anything of wrought iron. Every once in a while, you stumble onto a piece of it and know you have to bring it home with you. This happened while we were staying at Cranberry Cottage the week before Easter. We went to a tiny village called Warffum to visit the open air museum and walked past this blacksmith shop. You can see more of Ron Caspers' work here.

Seeing all those beauties outside pulled us in to ask about buying something that caught my eye. But then once inside, it was pure pleasure to discover this wonderful work space.

Did I bring something home with me? Yes! I spied this old rusted piece of possibly a fence or balcony railing. I am not sure that the smith did not think I was nuts as he seemed not used to selling any of the old left over bits from his restoration work but this is what I wanted. Just look at the beautiful detail!

Jos sunk an old piece of post we had and laid a few bricks under the area where the gate would fall. I now have an eye catcher at the end of my new little herb garden. There are two valerian plants just on the other side. This herb grows to a good height and the gate will add stability plus give it a nice backdrop. I just love it!

Thank you everyone for your comments on my last post. The response was very touching and much appreciated! I have been to see the specialist here at my own hospital. He is running some tests but there is a good chance we will never know what made my body react as it did. The length of time for the reaction could mean it is not food related. I will know more in 3 weeks. In the meantime, he has given me an emergency kit with 4 medications to use if it happens again to keep it from getting dangerous before an ambulance can get to me.

Easter with Daffodowndilly...

Easter did not go according to plan for us. On Saturday, I awoke with a major rash. I have chronic urticaria due to my Hashimoto's Disease but have never had the rash this bad. Other than it being extremely uncomfortable, I just went on with my day. By the time it was evening and we had eaten, I was starting to feel worse and decided to go to bed very early with my Kindle to read. I thought the distraction would do me good. I fell asleep in no time and when Jos came to bed at 11:30pm, I woke up feeling worse and Jos said I looked worse too. I was literally a fire engine of burning rash from the back of my skull and face to the tops of my feet. But worse was the my throat was closing up. We decided it was best to call the doctor's post for evenings and weekends emergencies. She talked to Jos and then asked if I could talk on the phone. She told Jos she was sending a doctor to Cranberry Cottage immediately. But then she called back and said they decided it was not a good idea and they already dispatched an ambulance.

Praises to those two men that came here as they acted quickly and swiftly putting in an IV while I was laying in my bed and quickly injected medication. I had very low blood pressure and was going into anaphylactic shock. I am convinced I was only minutes from passing out so they came just in time. I was placed in the ambulance and started to improve rapidly even to the point of being able to talk above a whisper again. I thought a quick check in the hospital and I would be on my way back to the cottage.

What ended up happening was a second attack once I got to the hospital and a second injection. These injections are extremely painful for me because of my having severe fibromyalgia. In fact, the nurse had to stop the second injection and dilute it in salt water with the IV drip to get the medication into my body. The injections alone were sending me into shock with my blood pressure dropping rapidly.

They finally were able to move me into a hospital room...the last they had open and I had a third attack but it was decided not to give me a third injection as it would not be good for my kidneys.

The doctor allowed me to come home but the rash will continue for a while. It is evening and starting to burn profusely again so we are keeping an eye on it but I need to give it time. I also have to contact a couple of my specialists in my own hospital as the doctor here recommended they start to look into it more.

I was treated this morning with a little pastry in the hospital and a little cupcake liner with a chick and chocolate eggs. I brought it home for Jos to enjoy since I had the pastry. Not exactly what I had planned for Easter morning.

Speaking of chicks...don't these violets look like they have chick faces on them?

And yellow is a them in our little garden here at Cranberry Cottage in early spring.
My forsythia is blooming in full force.

But it is my daffodils that steal the show each year with their pretty yellow dresses unfolding to welcome the spring.

A few white ones have popped in to say hello.

This time of year reminds me once again of the sweet children's verse by A.A. Milne...

"She wore her yellow sun-bonnet,
She wore her greenest gown,
She turned to the south wind,
And curtsied up and down.

She turned to the sunlight,
And shook her yellow head,
And whispered to her neighbor:
'Winter is dead.' "

...after all, you are never too old for some Winnie the Pooh...

Happy Easter to you all!

Back to school.....

It is 1900 and school is beginning...

As you come into the class, remove your wooden shoes and place them in your correct numbered cubbiehole...

Place your smock over your dress...

Put your slate board and chalk stick in place on your desk...

Place your ink well on your desk being careful not to spill the ink...

It is time to learn how to spell a few words...

Until finally it is recess and we can go outside to play for 15 minutes...

I took these photos this week at the OpenLucht Museum (Open Air Museum) of Warffum in Groningen.

When I was a little girl, I loved going to school. I remember sometimes during summer vacation, plopping myself down on the couch exclaiming to my mother that I was bored and wanted to go to school. *grins* Did you like going to school?

Sunday sip.....

I am Mary and here are all my little lambs.....

We took a nice walk today at the Dwingelderveld National Park. Just a short walk as the north wind was really blowing. We went from the visitors center to the Ruiner sheep herd and barns. They had just been out in the heather fields and the herder was bringing them back into the barn. It is a busy time as it is lambing season. Just look and listen to all those lambs in the front barn.....

After our walk, we stopped at De Huiskamer in Ansen for our Sunday sip. It was a bowl of Drentse mustard soup with thin slices of authentic Drentse droge worst (spicy dry sausage). The combination of flavors was so tasty. They served it with warm bread. My sip? A glass of Sauvignon Blanc while Jos had a beer fresh from the tap. Just the thing to warm us up.....

What are you sipping this Sunday?
