"Every house where love abides
And friendship is a guest,
Is surely home, and home sweet home
For there the heart can rest."

Twas the week before Christmas - Day 7

Decorating simply with pinecones...

On a windowsill with pine branches, berries, lights and ornaments...

In a large glass cookie jar with lights, dried cranberries, cinnamon sticks and star anise...

On top of the hutch with greenery, holly and lights...

In a dough bowl with red ornaments and a little stitched pillow...

"I hear the wind among the trees
Playing the celestial symphonies;
I see the branches downward bent,
Like keys of some great instrument."

~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Have a peace-filled Christmas Eve!

I have been following all your posts Heidi....the house looks lovely as usual, you have such a touch with decorating. I wish you & your husband a very happy Christmas and hope 2012 brings you health improvements especially with your eyes. I'm sure you're full of plans like all of us for lots of stitching & quilting.

Since I am talking to you right now and it is Christmas Eve, you just said you opened your Christmas Jammies and have them on. Glad they fit. Some of our things are in the living room waiting to be opened and the others are up in my sewing room.
We had pizza for lunch since we were all, Bill, Eric and me, were baking and icing cut out cookies.
Tomorrow is turkey with all the trimmings. I made the pies last night. I am ready to sit down now.
Hope you have a great Christmas. Wish you were here.
Love you, Mom

Pinecones are perfect. I always look at them and think, how do they form...how does it happen that they're on the ground, and they're these finished, wonderful things? Left natural or spray-painted, just so "Christmas."

I've always wondered about your mom because she has such good humor; I've read her comments here. So I saw where you had something highlighted on her, which linked me to her blog. Another wonderful blog! Wow, are you two a couple of talented women.

I've passed a lot of time on your site tonight and have really enjoyed your Christmas posts. To think you do the writing, conceptualizing, photography...it's really a lot, and you've got more than one site, not to mention that you probably aren't feeling so great a lot of the time while you're doing it, but I supposed it's also something to occupy the mind, and I hope it gives you as much satisfaction as it does for us who come here. I think you have a really interesting life. One of my favorite (of so many) posts of yours was the fairly-recent one about the red mushrooms/toadstools. I have a ceramic red mushroom...whimsical figurine...and I thought it was just fantastical; I had no idea there were really red ones. And, of course, anything you ever write about Friesland is gonna capture my attention like a laser-light because that's where my grandpa was born, and there's so little of it I know about; it's a treat to hear anything about the environs.

If I didn't say it before, thanks for indulging my often-too-long comments, as I have a tendency to get too conversational while keyboarding but, I will say, blogging is very good for decompressing and, as others have said, coming to The Cranberry Chronicle is very calming. Those bobbin-lace ornaments are incredibly-beautiful. I'm not crafty, but I love to see these things. My mom had an elderly friend who would tat...something you never see anymore. A simple greeting card, with delicate tatting she'd add as a border; amazing, disappearing handiwork which need to be learned by a new generation.

Happy New Year to you, your husband and huggable Dagi!
