"Every house where love abides
And friendship is a guest,
Is surely home, and home sweet home
For there the heart can rest."

Welcome autumn!

Ah, sweet autumn! Welcome autumn! This is a season that I love and that is summed up in these words by George Eliot...

"Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth
seeking the successive autumns."

Yesterday, I decided to start my autumn decorating. I am adding touches of the rich colors of the seasons in my house. Where better to start than the front door. I found this wreath again when I crawled up into the attic and added some more accents to it to welcome not only the season but visitors to my home.....

While at the cottage last week, we stopped by a farm that was selling pumpkins and ghords. I decided to buy more subdued green and white ones for my garden table. Placing a pumpkin on top of a candlestick always add a dramatic effect.....

I also could not resist adding heather to an iron vase in our little coffee corner of the garden. I do so love heather.....

I am coming round to thinking of autumn too! Lovely gourds - such wonderful shapes and patterns - and I love the vase with the heather. The wreath will be very welcoming!

How I love this season! There is something quite magical about the soft early morning light on the fields and the beautiful colours as the leaves start to change.

Enjoy the season!

Somehow, its something that I'm not used to doing. I guess we dont decorate in England except for Christmas and Easter...sad isnt it?

Autumn is lovely, but as the prelude to winter's cold, I have come to dread it. That aside, isn't it fun to rediscover treasures that lie away in attics (or for me, the basement)? I like your wreath, and your gourd vignette is wonderful. Oh, and heather! Mine barely squeaks through from one season to another (it's really too cold for it here), but it's not the tall variety. I like yours much better!

Oh, heather so reminds me of England, and I love England. Very nice touches of Harvest time. We are coming up on a great time of year.
Love you, Mom

My favorite season of the year. Only no more trips to 'Ouddorp' to buy pumpkins.
So I have to look around my own neighborhood.

Love your autumn touches, especially the heather. I don't see that around here.
