"Every house where love abides
And friendship is a guest,
Is surely home, and home sweet home
For there the heart can rest."

Bookworm!

I love books! I used to tell my mother 'Mother, don't read!' and guess what? I became a bookworm myself. *grins* But even as a little girl, I used to play librarian. My mother bought me the date stamp and my sister helped me make library cards for my books. I loved the smell of books and still do to this day.

Did you ever see The Music Man? Remember the song Marian the Librarian? Turn on your speakers and enjoy! If you click video you can even see it...

If I am not working with needle and thread, I am reading a good book.

I love new books...

...but have a passion for old books too.

I use them throughout the house. These are in my guest room.

Or vintage books with bookends. I think I must be reading too much by the looks of the dust on that bookend. *wink*

With a quilt and flowers stacked on a quilt to decorate the dining room table.

Under a lamp to give it just the right height in front of a mirror. Do you recognize the framed painting? It is The Bronte Sisters who are high among my list of favorite authors.

A book mill helps show off part of my vintage book collection.

Yes, there are even books in the bathroom. I love to start my day with reading a book while I have a hot bath.

Books with secret storage. A great way to hide your remotes.

And books with special meanings to decorate for a holiday like Valentine's Day. This book was a gift from my sister to Jos and I for our 4th wedding anniversary.

"Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers."

~Charles W. Eliot

Such lovely photos. I love to use books as decoration as well. The older, the better. The best part is, when you sit down anywhere in the house...all you have to do, is reach out and there is a book to read a couple of passages from. Easy entertainment!

It was fun seeing the video. I love to decorate with books as well. I often choose a subject and put those book out for a season like garden books or a certain author. You have some beautiful ones.

I love books too. I keep so many around it's ridiculous! But it does seem that every time I try to thin out my lot, I end up having to go back in re-buy some I've already owned! You just never know when you will need a good book!!!

I really enjoyed this post. I tend to read books over and over and over again when I find a good one! I'd never really thought of decorating with books. When Savannah's bigger I'll have to try that. Right now she'd just rip the pages (voice of experience here, lol!).

I love all your pictures. And your display of books. Books have always been an important part of my life and like you I love to live with them. But I have them all in my study on shelves along the walls. They surround me when I work at my desk or on the computer. And sometimes they also distract me ...

There you go again, "guest room", hummmmmm, will I like those books????
Yes, you always used to say 'Mother, will you stop reading". What goes around -----.
I do remember well when you played librarian. You had lots of fun. I do love all of your books, very inviting.
I am afraid to read in the bathtub, not that I ever stay in long enough, but I think I will drop the book. LOL.
Okay long enough comment now.
Love you, Mom

Your post made me smile because I own or have read so many of the same books! My sister, now retired, was an elementary school librarian. She has lots of books and is nice enough to loan them out to me. Unfortunately, I can't keep up with the volume!

Wow, Heidi!! You certainly do have books everywhere. It's funny because I don't remember seeing them but I'm thinking that's because I've got books everywhere and my eyes accept them as being normal and my brain doesn't register them. OK, maybe my brain doesn't register all that well.

I too love books very much, both reading and writing them. I hope I will be able to publish them once I retire. Too much things in my mind that I think will go to waste if I do not pen them down into books.

Heidi, hi,
I thought I had commented on this post - it's definitely a senior moment. Like you i love old books especially the smell of the pages. The ones with illustrated front covers are especially beautiful.
I had to smile as y sister and i used to play libraries too and had little stamps and we made library cards.

My mum understood very little English when my sister and I were little girls and there was no such things as libraries in Cyprus where she was born and brought up but she would collect us every afternoon from school and once a week she would stop at the local library, bless her.
