"Every house where love abides
And friendship is a guest,
Is surely home, and home sweet home
For there the heart can rest."

Back to school.....

It is 1900 and school is beginning...

As you come into the class, remove your wooden shoes and place them in your correct numbered cubbiehole...

Place your smock over your dress...

Put your slate board and chalk stick in place on your desk...

Place your ink well on your desk being careful not to spill the ink...

It is time to learn how to spell a few words...

Until finally it is recess and we can go outside to play for 15 minutes...

I took these photos this week at the OpenLucht Museum (Open Air Museum) of Warffum in Groningen.

When I was a little girl, I loved going to school. I remember sometimes during summer vacation, plopping myself down on the couch exclaiming to my mother that I was bored and wanted to go to school. *grins* Did you like going to school?

Prachtig verslag Heidi. Ik geniet even met je mee, maar de vakanties vond ik ook heerlijk.

very sweet pictures. No, I did not really like going to school. I prefered to stay home and watch game shows.

I loved going to school so much that I have been in school forever - 45 years! Maybe one day I can graduate and stay home!! Love these pictures.

Ook ik vond het heerlijk op school, in de vakantie miste ik mijn klasgenootjes vooral. Maar wanneer ik van mijn moeder handwerkmateriaal kreeg, duurde de vakantie weer tekort.
Liefs en hugs, Bep.

Lovely pictures Heidi it is nearly 60 years since I left school but I did love needlework and cooking at school and still enjoying it now. I remember gardening when I was at junior school and as you know that is one of my favourite pastimes now.
Happy memories.
Hugs,

Only for the first two weeks, then I could not wait for vacation. I was more bored in school than out. It always seemed to be a repeat of the year before. Once I was a sophomore in high school with tough teachers did I begin to enjoy school.

Love the little museum, we have one very close to us. Will post pics sometime.

A very glorious Easter to you and Jos.

blessings, jilly

I loved school when I was a girl. I loved the order, the books, the music, the other children. Good times!

Heidi, this is such a precious story! I can imagine me spilling my ink every day :). I loved school for the first 4 years and then looked forward to going back in late summer each year but did not love it any more. Hope you are having a great Easter time!
