"Every house where love abides
And friendship is a guest,
Is surely home, and home sweet home
For there the heart can rest."

Sweet dreams...

It is evening and this is the time when a room can change and take on a special glow. I have often been asked by Dutch friends how I can stand to make my bed with all my pillows. I think your bedroom should be your sanctuary. To me that means keeping things around me that I love and make me feel at peace.

So my bedroom has many pillows which I have always found comforting. I happily make my bed each morning and replace the pillows again. I find it a good start to my morning. Life is in the details.

My bedroom is not a showplace like you see on many blogs. I love my simple homemade patchwork quilt which has developed a beautiful old look as it has been washed. My bear Bronwyn holds a sampler pillow I stitched.

This cuddly dog was a gift from my Aunt Janey when I was only 3 and had to have my tonsils out. I still have him all these years later and could never miss him now. I cannot remember this not being on my bed throughout my life!

Dagi is my living cuddly toy! He loves to snuggle up with me when I go to sleep. A granny square afghan my mother made for me to throw over me if I get to chilled. No television in our bedroom. It is supposed to be a place of rest but I do like to read in bed.

My reading corner takes on a pretty glow at night with the lamp shining on my sampler walls. I love waking up to the vision of these stitched pieces.

Is your room a sanctuary? If not, look around and see what you can place in your room to make it a peaceful place. It doesn't need to look magazine perfect but does need to feel comfortable. If not, you may suffer these words by William Wordsworth...

"Even thus last night, and two nights more I lay,
And could not win thee, Sleep, by any stealth:
So do not let me wear to-night away.
Without thee what is all the morning's wealth?
Come, blessed barrier between day and day,
Dear mother of fresh thoughts and joyous health!"

Your room looks beautiful. I happen to know you got mad at a certain Kitty while you were trying to take the pictures. Well, he is looking at you like "why are you mad, I am being a perfect Gentleman, just posing for you"
LOL, he is IN CHARGE.
love you, Mom

Your bedroom looks very cozy. I feel like I'm missing that in mine. It's really too big and I don't know what to do with all of it. I like the way you have your needlework grouped. It gives that wall a very cozy look. RYC you mentioned cheese soup, do you have a recipe? I've had cheese in soup like cauliflower and cheese or broc. and cheese. I don't think I've ever had just plain cheese soup, but it sounds interesting. Do you use Gouda, I love it but it's a little pricy here. Linda

Hi Heidi, your bedroom looks lovely in the evening light and your reading corner is so cozy. Glad you were able to spend some time at Cranberry Cottage and the pictures of the little cottage near by is darling.

Hope all is well and you are feeling better

Hello Heidi, I really like your bedroom. I have lots of pillows on mine too, but unfortunately we do have a tv in there which I have been threatening to throw out! Love the quilt and afghan, all the coziness to it, you have made a beautiful room to relax in!

Like you, I love pillows. Alas, my family is not crazy about them, so they have all but disappeared from the living room couches. I do have them on my bed, though, and take delight in them. And 'though my bedroom is cluttered by some accounts, I love being surrounded by my favorite things.

I long ago gave up on making my bed except on my days off. My husband comes home from work while I'm still working and promptly goes upstairs to take a nap. I never get to see it made or enjoy it. I love having a bedroom clean so that there's always a restful place to go to when the day gets crazy but since he started with this company I had to give that up. Someday maybe when he retires. Your room looks very restful and I love rooms like this that are full of items given or made with love. To me the love enclosed there is a sanctuary!

But me, I'm usually in a hurry every day and not good at making my bed and putting my pillows back every morning...shame on me.
But I do love your house and all the samplers by the way, are gorgeous.

Hi Heidi,

Your bedroom looks lovely and the light makes it a fairytale. Our bedroom, AHUM, is dreadful. I know :( Maybe that will come one day. I am making my 'Lea's quilt' though and want to have that near my bed later ...
You asked about my certificates: I have done 8 of the 9 modules now (2 today, 6 hours work!). Tomorrow I hope to complete this part completely. Coming Thursday there will be an instruction and there is more to come. Never a dull moment ;) The girls were so sweet to go to the supermarket and make pancakes, hurray!

Have a great weekend & hugs, Carolien

I love your room Heidi. It is so cozy. I too love pillows, and a room that is filled with handmade things. On the foot of my bed I have an afghan that my grandmother crocheted for me right before she died and I too have a dog(although mine is yellow with white ears) that my mom gave to me when I had my tonsils out when I was five! I also love your sampler wall. Samplers and quilts are two of my favorite things. :)

Hope you are having a happy day!

Your bedroom really reflects its owner's personality. And it looks like a sanctuary indeed. Your reading corner near the sampler walls attracts me most.

It think you might not want to go to sleep in this room, because there are so many beautiful things to enjoy looking at. LOL.
(I am only saying this, because I am a little bit 'jaloers op' your magic touch in making your home such a beautiful place, with all the warm, sfeervolle things.

Hi, Heidi...Hi, Dagi! Your room is so lovely and serene... I can imagine many a happy, dreamy, restful hour is spent there. I used to do layers of pillows like that too, but after we moved a few years ago, but down on the pillow--it was too much fuss in the mornings...LOL! Sad much true, but I still love the look. Hope you are doing well. Happy Days! Oh, and I love the new look here--the Irish theme is fun, and so are those shamrock pillows in the banner. :o) ((HUGS))

Your bedroom is wonderful and comfy looking! It is a room in a home that is lived in and well loved, not a stiff uncomfortable showplace.

Hi Heidi
Your bedroom looks so warm and cosy just like a bedroom should be and I love your reading corner with all the samplers on the wall.
I like how you painted the sundial mirror black. It looks great like that. Good treasure! Hope you are well.
